Create and manage selections and groups in Elvaco Evo
This guide explains how to use the selection and grouping features to efficiently sort, group, and create lists of meters to work with.
Why use selections and groups?
A selection acts as a customized filter view that helps you quickly find the data you need. It saves time and makes it easier to manage large numbers of meters based on different criteria. By organizing selections into groups, you get a clear and hierarchical structure in the menu on the left.
Create groups for your selections
You can organize your selections into groups to create a clear structure, for example, based on areas, properties, or meter types. Groups can be created in multiple levels.
- Go to the Meters menu.
- Click the three dots next to Meters or All selections in the menu on the left.
- Choose Add group.
- Name your group.
Create a selection
You create a new selection by navigating to the Meters menu and clicking on Create new selection.
There are a few different ways to create a selection:
- Based on specific criteria: You can create selections based on criteria like specific sites, meter numbers, or gateway serial numbers.
- By uploading a file: To quickly create a selection of several sites, you can upload a .txt file. The file should contain the site numbers for the meters you want to include, with one site number per line. This is an efficient way to import large lists. NOTE: The system has a maximum limit of 499 sites per file. If your list contains 500 or more sites, you must divide them into separate .txt files and upload them individually.
Different types of selections
There are two main types of selections, each with its own purpose:
1. Static Selections
A static selection contains a fixed, manually defined list of meters. They can only be changed by manually adding or removing meters. Use static selections when you want to create a permanent group for specific meters.
You can create static selections based on:
- Specific sites/meters
- Meter number / secondary address
- Gateway serial number
2. Dynamic Selections
A dynamic selection updates automatically based on the underlying data. Meters are added or removed from the list in real-time, which is perfect for automated monitoring.
You can create dynamic selections based on:
- City or address
- Meter type
- Error reporting
- Alarms
- Treshold Values – A very powerful tool for proactively finding deviations. See our separate guide for more detailed information.
Edit and delete a selection
To edit or delete an existing selection, follow these steps:
- Find the selection you want to change in your list.
- Click the action button next to the name of the selection.
- Choose "Edit selection" to edit it, or "Delete selection" to remove it completely.
- To add an existing selection to a group, choose "Add reference to group".
Analyze collection statistics for a selection
To get an overview of data collection for a selection, go to the meter view and select the selection you want to look at. Then click the Collection tab. Here you will find statistics on how well the meters in the selected collection are sending data.
You can choose which time period you want to analyze and either view the statistics in a graphical view or look at each individual meter in a list view. You can also export this data to Excel.
