Installation

Mounting

Elvaco Edge supports multiple mounting options. A wall mounting kit is included, allowing direct wall attachment or installation using the supplied bayonet mount. A pole mount is available as an optional accessory.

Note

A drill template for both the enclosure and the bayonet mount is printed on the cardboard box in which the Elvaco Edge is delivered.

Wall-mounted enclosure

Elvaco Edge can be wall-mounted using four screws. For measurements, see below image, or use the drill template printed on the cardboard box. Hole diameter is 4.5 mm and maximum screw head diameter is 9 mm for the mounting holes on the enclosure.

Bayonet mount

Elvaco Edge can be mounted using the included bayonet mount. The bayonet mount itself is fastened onto the wall or other surface with a minimum of two screws. Make sure to attach it in a correct angle illustrated in below image, for the gateway to be installed in correct angle. The gateway is attached on the bayonet mount itself by rotating it clockwise 45 degrees.

Note

If replacing a CMi Box with an Elvaco Edge, it can easily be done by using the same mounting holes as for the existing CMi Box.

Pole mount

Elvaco Edge can be mounted on a pole, for example on light poles in outdoor installations. The pole mount supports diameters from 50 to 250 mm. Installation is performed in two steps:

  1. Secure the pole mount to the pole

  2. Attach the gateway using the integrated bayonet system

The bayonet system enables quick installation and easy removal when required. The pole mount itself is purchased seperately.

Power supply

  1. Connect the main power supply to the spring terminals, power supply L and power supply N. Main supply voltage should be in the range of 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz.

  2. Ensure the cable is properly secured to provide strain relief.

  3. Connect the power supply to a clearly marked, easily accessible switch to ensure the product can be switched off during maintenance or service work.

Warning

The installation must be performed by a qualified electrician or another professional with the required knowledge.

M-Bus

M-Bus is a multi-drop 2-wire bus without polarity. All connected M-Bus slaves must have unique primary or secondary M-Bus addresses depending on addressing mode. Use a cable of area 0.25-1.5mm2 , e.g. a standard telephone cable (EKKX 2x2x0.5) and connect the wiring to the M-Bus master terminal. Make sure to use a cable tie for strain relief on cables routed out of the enclosure as seen in below image.

Warning

Overcurrent on the bus will activate the circled LEDs on the lid and turn off the M-Bus bus.

Antennas

Elvaco Edge is delivered with high quality internal antennas. This means that it is not always necessary to mount an external antenna, depending on the external surroundings of the gateway.

Note

Do not mount the antenna inside a metallic cabinet. Doing so can affect antenna performance drastically.

Note

Do not mount the antenna close to the M-Bus 2-wire bus.

Caution

Ensure the cable is properly secured to provide strain relief.

Cellular antenna

Elvaco Edge is delivered with an internal antenna for cellular connectivity. However, if improved reception is needed, an external antenna can be added by connecting it to the MCX connector. For installations where an external antenna is used, make sure to configure which antenna should be active in your Elvaco Edge using Elvaco OTC app.

Wireless M-Bus antenna

There are different models of Elvaco Edge where some have internal antenna only and some allow the user to use either internal or external antenna for increasing the wireless M-Bus reception. These different models have change in hardware, and an internal only gateway, can not be retrofitted into using an external antenna. Configure which antenna should be active in your Elvaco Edge via NFC using Elvaco Play app.

Tip

If you are unsure whether an external antenna is required to collect data from all your desired meters, purchase an Edge model which enables external antenna. Then you can start off with internal antenna, and if the coverage is not good enough, attach the external antenna.

Caution

Elvaco Edge gateways with support for attaching an external wireless M-Bus antenna are configured for use of external antenna from factory. This means that if no external antenna is attached, no meters will be heard. So either attach an external antenna, or configure the gateway to use its internal antenna instead.

Cable wiring

The enclosure of Elvaco Edge includes a foam to enable cable transfer to maintain without adding any external cable glands.

  1. Press the cable through the foam to the correct diameter (until you hear a click)

  2. Make sure the foam is sealed once again after cable is mounted out of enclosure

  3. Cut the knockout on lid for better cable transfer

Note

It can take up to 24 hours before the material has returned to its natural shape. Cut the knockouts according the marks on lid for better cable fit.

Tampering protection

The enclosure of Elvaco Edge enables sealing of the device to avoid tampering. As can be seen in the image below, the lid can and tray can be fastened together using a anti-tampering seal.
