Release notes
Release date: 2026-05-18
Notes: This release doesn't introduce any new firmware features. The release is done to make the firmware compatible with the newly released CMi4160 hardware. The firmware also includes improved handling of meter values during error states, preventing invalid BCD values from being reported as misleading numeric readings.
The new hardware has an updated mechanical design and includes the following improvements
-
New NFC antenna design to improve interaction with the Elvaco OTC app
-
On-board antenna connector. Enables the antenna choice, internal or external, to be changed after deployment.
-
Improved physical fit in Diehl SCYLAR INT8. The CMi4160 is now mechanically aligned with the sister modules CMi6160 for NB-IoT and CMi7160 for OMSv5/mioty communication, providing a better fit in Diehl’s SCYLAR INT 8 energy calculator. This also means that the battery connector has been changed to be the same as for CMi6160 and CMi7160 as well.
Note
The new HW for CMi4160 G2 comes with its own JoinEUI - 0x94193A0310000001. This might affect existing LoRaWAN® server implementations. If so, make sure to adapt the implementation to the new JoinEUI for a proper join procedure and connection.
Note
Note that the battery connector has been changed for the new HW version. Nevertheless, this has no functional effect of the product.

Notes: This release introduces a new message format, Max flow, which includes the maximum flow rate during the last logging period, along with the date when it occurred. See Maximum flow for a complete message format specification.
Warning
This format is only useful in meters with FW version 3 or higher since it relies the logger functionality of the meter which was introduced in meter FW 03.
Note
The value/date of the maximum flow is taken from the meters log. The log can be configured in the meter for different intervals (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly etc.) and thus the value sent depends on how the meter is configured.

Notes: This release address an issue that was introduced in FW 1.0.6 when dealing with tariffs. It also fixes an issue that could show up in certain LoRaWAN® network server environment, unexpectedly dropping telegrams. Lastly, it corrects the the encoding of the error codes received if the meter communication is not working.

Notes: In previous releases, CMi4160 does not handle tariff registers other than energy. This release makes it possible to also handle volume and time tariffs. Please note! If changing tariff settings in the meter, make sure the CMi4160 is rebooted afterwards to ensure proper tariff handling. Reboot can be triggered either remotely via LoRaWAN downlink, or locally via the Elvaco OTC App.
