What is NTP?

NTP stands for Network Time Protocol and is a standard for synchronizing the time in a network.

Why are Elvaco's modules using this?

Our modules are using this to set their internal clock.

When is this used?

The time synchronization is done during installation and 2 times per day.

Why does the error occur?

The error occurs when the module can not connect to the specified NTP server. This can be caused by various things,

Temporary error

This is usually a temporary problem and if you try again it usually succeeds. If the problem remains after 3 attemps, something is wrong.

Problems with the GPRS connection

If there is no working GPRS connection, you can not access the NTP server on the internet. Make sure that the correct APN is set and the status of the GPRS connection. You do this by sending a "status sms"

The response will give you the following information (may vary depending on the module's software version)

From - Which module has sent the SMS

Time - Current time in the module

Uptime - Time since last reboot

Signal - Signal strength

Provider - Provider

Gprs - The status of the GPRS connection

Attached - Connection ok

Yes - Connection available but it may not work

No - There is no available GPRS connection

Apn - APN used to connect to the internet. Check with the provider that the correct APN is used

 Problem with the NTP server

If there is a problem with the NTP server, if it is not possible to access, closed APN etc. you can choose another NTP server. You can use any server supporting NTP.

Here are some settings you can change. The new value is written after the (=) sign. Complete instructions are in the user manual.

Is it possible to do the installation without setting the clock?

It is possible to turn off the time synchronization during installation.

 Permanent shut-off (NOT recommended)

2222;set install.timesync.enabled=false

 Temporary shut-off (recommended)

Add the following text at the end of the installation SMS.

install.timesync.enabled=false

Example

Install 1 elvaco install.timesync.enabled=false

Is it possible to turn off the time synchronization?

It is possible to turn off the scheduled time synchronization. Password for level 2 is required.
